International Cooperation in Practice: Guest Lecture by Professors from the University of Žilina at the Faculty of Transport and Communications in Sarajevo

Within the framework of the KA171 Erasmus+ program, a professional guest lecture and workshop were held at the Faculty of Transport and Communications at UNSA in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), attended by lecturers from the University of Žilina. The event attracted students and experts interested in embedded systems, electronics, and modern trends in railway engineering.

Assoc. Prof. Ing. Michal Hodoň, PhD., Assoc. Prof. Ing. Ondrej Karpiš, PhD., and Assoc. Prof. Ing. Peter Ševčík, PhD. presented research activities and practical experiences in areas such as the development of electronics for control panels, innovative approaches to teaching embedded systems, and the establishment of a new railway engineering laboratory at the University of Žilina. The presentations were interactive, practical, and inspiring.

The lecture was followed by a practical workshop focused on the development of IoT solutions using the ESP32 microcontroller and programming in Micropython. Participants learned about:

  • Principles of basic electronics (LEDs, transistors, Ohm’s and Kirchhoff’s laws),
  • Basics of object-oriented programming in Micropython,
  • Architecture and functions of the ESP32 (GPIO, PWM, ADC, interrupts, power modes, UART, SPI),
  • Communication capabilities of this platform.

The workshop was very well received. Students actively engaged in discussions and practical tasks, deepening their knowledge of modern technologies. We thank our colleagues from the University of Sarajevo for the pleasant cooperation and inspiring exchange of knowledge, which will significantly contribute to the development of educational activities, research, and international cooperation.
